Statistika – Journal for Economy and Statistics Instructions for Authors
For the purposes of conformity and smooth processing adhere please
to the following rules:
A. Text in MS Word editor
-
Only left justification without first line indentation should be used
(with one line space left between paragraphs).
-
Outdentation, automated numbering and marking levels (e.g. in notes),
setting of paragraph types for various kinds of text (titles, subtitles) are
absolutely useless and non-functional in the subsequent text processing
(for example, text of a footnote should be put just below the relevant
paragraph between two free lines).
-
The use of italics, boldface, subscript and superscript will be fully
transferred into the typesetting.
-
What should not be used (to be switched off in the settings!!) is
the function that forcibly moves single character words, which would otherwise
be left at the end of the line, to the next line. The text editor inserts
into the text items of program information about this so-called forced division,
which otherwise requires time-consuming manual removal.
-
Do not use please any kinds of ground tint and colours for text, titles,
subtitles, tables and graphs (no double lines and other decoration
in tables).
Bear in mind please that the text in its final version will be broken from
a different type size and typeface, further, for example, into a larger number
of columns of a different width than that set in the text editor. It should be
pointed out that any graphic text adjustment in the text editor is vain and
pointless work. The level of importance, e.g. in titles and subtitles, can easily
be indicated in your printed copy (by a series of numbers, italics by a wavy line,
boldface by underlining).
B. Graphs, picture files
-
For the processing of graphs it is essential, apart from indicating
the required type (bar chart, pie chart, dot chart), to attach (by form
of a table) the source numerical information necessary for making the graphs.
-
All picture files (bitmap - e.g. photographs, or vectorial ones - logotypes,
graphic compositions) should be saved separately beyond the text file
in *.tif, *.jpg, *.eps formats with relevant reference in the text
(picture 1, diagram 1, etc.).
-
It is important for further technological processing that the resolution
of 300 dpi be used for bitmap files in required size.
-
Also files in the following original programs in use by the graphic studio
may be used as a source for printing: CorelDRAW! version 9 or earlier,
Adobe Illustrator version 8 or earlier; however, you had better consult
the graphic studio because problems with used typeface or formats (PC, McIntosh)
may occur.
-
Naturally, also classical photographs (black-and-white or colour, intact
and free from folding) may serve as a source for printing.
-
Absolutely unfit for use+ are computer printouts from ink and
laser printers and in particular Xerox copies!
C. Examples of legends and references
-
Picture 1 - abcdefghij (below the picture)
-
Table 1: abcdefghij (above the table)

D. Page layout
-
Page mirror: typesetting frame = 128 x 197 mm (one column),
61,5 x 197 mm (two columns, 5 mm space between).
-
Font:Times type, size 10 pts, space between lines 12.5 pts,
paragraph indent 3.5 mm.
-
Formula size:font by at least 1 point larger (due to subscript
and superscript), i.e. 11-12 pts.
E. Article layout
- Sequence:text of article, bibliography, abstract.
- Title levels:
Order 1 - main title (title of article) - 16 pts in boldface (lower case)
Order 2 - chapter - 12 pts in boldface (lower case)
Order 3 - subchapter - 10 pts in boldface (lower case)
- Decimal classification of chapters - example:
1. mmmmmmm
1.1 mmmmmmm
1.1.1 mmmmmmm
-
Author of article - 10 pts in italics. Author's address,
telephone number and e-mail address
should be given at the end of article.
F. Concluding instructions
